INTERNATIONAL WORKERS' DAY:PROTECT AND PROMOTE THE WELFARE OF WORKERS- NBA President, Olumide Akpata; represented by NBA Bwari Chairman, Monday Ajeh

 The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata has used the occasion of the International Workers' Day to reiterate the need to protect and promote the welfare of workers in Nigeria.


Representing the President of the Nigerian Bar Association during the Workers' Day celebration at the Eagle Square, Abuja, the Chairman of the NBA Bwari Branch, Monday Adjeh passed a strong message to all and sundry on the need to ensure that the rights of Nigerian labourers are protected and the need to pay workers their wages and benefits as at when due.

The NBA President, speaking through his representative, Monday Adjeh pressed for an upward review of the minimum wage policy of the federal government and decried the poor health conditions labourers have to endure in order to carry out the tasks assigned to them.

As at today, in many parts of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory, the minimum wage cannot buy more than a bag of rice for a Nigerian labourer.
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu (National Chairman of the ruling political party, All Progressives Congress), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole (former National Chairman of the APC), Boss Mustspha (Secretary to the Government of the Federation), Sen. Chris Ngige (Minister for Labour), Ayuba Wabba (President of the Nigeria Labour Congress) and a host of others were at the event.
